The Legnum VR-4, meaning "Viscous Realtime 4-wheel-drive", was introduced in during the JDM golden era in 1996. The 6A13T engine was a 2.5L V6 twin turbo unit which pushed power up to the Japanese voluntary limit of 206 kW (280 PS; 276 hp) or 191 kW (260 PS; 256 hp) for the pre-facelift automatic version). The car was capable of over 160 mph (260 km/h) when derestricted, and could accelerate from 0–60 mph (0–96 km/h) in 5.3 seconds for the 5-speed manual and 5.7 seconds for the 5-speed INVECS-II, which was now an advanced self-learning automatic based on Porsche's Tiptronic transmission.

The Legnum had the Type-V and Type-S trim level. The Type- V trim level was the manual version, while the Type-S trim level was only available with the automatic INVECS-II but included Active Stability Control (ASC) and Traction Control Logic (TCL). Most variants offered Active Yaw Control (AYC). This complex rear diff was first seen on the Lancer Evo IV, and used an array of sensors to detect and quell oversteer, giving the ultimate VR-4 great agility for a vehicle of its size and weight.

The Legnum VR4 comes from a time when Mitsubishi was still a JDM hero battling it out on the world stage through the WRC and was pouring huge amounts of technology into it's cars. The result here was fantastic super-wagon that could haul ass and a large load of equipment at the same time. Sadly, cars like these are incredibly rare now days, but you can still get one for yourself in 1:64 scale for a limited time! Don't wait too long because scale models of these are even harder to find than the real thing 😮.
