HKS participated in Group A for only two years, making its debut appearance 1992 in this green and black livery. At the time, Group A was considered the greatest form of touring car racing in Japan and the R32 GTR was completely dominant. HKS battled against many works teams head-on but unlike most teams in the series, HKS developed their own RB26 rather than using the NISMO engine. The engine developed around 600ps and was mated to a Holinger six speed dog transmission. During it's time in Group A, HKS took two pole positions and won it's first victory in 1993 at Sugo Sportsland. HKS claimed this victory in a thrilling race when they came from behind in the last lap to to take the win.
